Most people know Yellowcard. Most people know their hit song “Only One”. It is my favorite song from Yellowcard. This is a very nicely done cover by Mayonnaise.

If you're following my music blog, you probably already know that I'm a fan of the song “MakeDamnSure” by Taking Back Sunday. I mean apart from the original, I also shared this and this. This cover by Mayonnaise is outstanding in that it mirrors the original very well, both in sound and raw vocals — and in my opinion that's pretty hard to do. It is a very good cover.

Did you know that it was originally written on a piano? I never would have guessed.

I didn't use to be a Papa Roach fan back then. But they kept coming out with great tracks throughout the years. And some of their songs really resonated with me. So, I couldn't really help but become a fan. And now I know why.

The video also talks about the battles with alcohol and suicide that Jacoby, the lead singer went through. It gives you an inside look into the humanity behind the band. Now I understand why their songs are deep and heavy. Any song writer who goes through hell, always comes out with great tracks. And we need to treasure these song writers while they're still around. Because not all of them survive their battle against depression and suicide.

First up is the song “Justified” by one of my favorite bands, A Day To Remember. This song is a great reminder for all of us to stop being judgemental of other people. Especially those with a different set of beliefs than ours. If your set of beliefs or religion has you looking down at other people who believe differently, then there's something wrong there.

Just as an example, Jesus said, “Love your neighbors as yourself.” Note that He didn't say to love them only if they believe what you believe. He said to love them as you love yourself.

Anyway, I don't want to sound like I'm preaching in this music log. Here are some of the song's lyrics. This is a great rock song from start to finish.

Second song for today is “In Between” by Beartooth. This is a good, hard rock, anthemic and uplifting track. It delivers a great message to listeners.

My favorite part of this song is the bridge. They captured this moment really well in the music video. You can see that the vocalist has given up and starts drowning. But help is on the way and what a relief that is to see.

Everyone battles their own demons in life. Whether that be addiction, anxiety, depression, sickness, whatever it may be, keep on fighting! Don't let suicide be your only way out. Find other people in the same predicament as you. Find other people who can pull you out of the darkness that you're in. And if all that fails, look up. Help is there, when you need it. Just don't give up.

Then in today's Mass, Dave and Lauren Moore, the couple who sings in the televised Sunday Masses that I watch, sang a beautiful rendition of “I Am The Bread Of Life”. Once again I was filled with this urge to write a Sunday Music Log post. I went on to the Catholic Diocese of Dallas website to find a way to contact the diocese. I wanted to ask them if they have recorded videos of the songs that Dave and Lauren Moore sang in Mass. It turns out, the diocese has a YouTube channel where they uploaded recordings of the televised Masses I've been watching. Within those videos are the exact rendition of the songs that I watched, and now want to share.

All songs in this music log were performed by Dave and Lauren Moore.

So, first up is this beautiful rendition of Dan Schutte's “You Are Near”. The song starts at around the 48:22 mark.

This song brings back good memories. Memories of me as a kid singing it in Mass at school. Memories of me playing the guitar, while our group of altar servers sang this song in Mass. It's such a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I've never heard this song sang as a duet. Dave and Lauren sang this beautifully.

First up is “Mirrors” by Our Last Night. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the band Our Last Night makes some of the best rock covers I've heard. This is no exception. This a great rock cover of Justin Timberlake's hit song “Mirrors”.

Second and last song for today is this really good rock cover of Adele's “Set Fire To The Rain”, by the band SYCAMOUR. This cover sounds so polished and clean. There's some minor screaming towards the end, but not enough to detract from the joy of listening to this cover.

Second song for today is “Waking Up” by the band In Stereo. Really good punk-rock, pop-punk track. It's surprising that it doesn't seem to be as popular as I think it should be. Couldn't find any official music video on Youtube for this one. The video on this post comes from a fan who uploaded a copy of the song, because they couldn't find an official one either. Anyway, like I said, a really good track worth listening to.

Anyway, first one for today is a cover of “Just The Way You Are”, originally by Bruno Mars. I love that they simply didn't follow along with the original melody and tune. Instead, they took inspiration from the original song and re-arranged it to where it sounds like at times, an original piece. Beautiful cover of the original.

Next one is a cover of the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit OST. This is an outstanding cover. More so if you consider that they only used a piano and cello for this cover. I'm a fan of the LoTR and a fan of the movies. This cover filled me with so much frisson while listening to it. They made it sound as epic as the original soundtrack. I could close my eyes while listening to this and feel like I'm in Middle-earth. Amazing job on this cover.

Last one for today is a cover of “Epiphany”, originally by BTS. If you haven't heard of BTS, then you probably don't have any teenagers around. My sisters love them. BTS is a very popular South Korean boy-band. As usual, this is a very good piano/cello cover of the original.

I was so into this cover that I couldn't stop myself from trying to at least figure out the main chords. Here they are: F – Dm – B♭ – C

First song for today is “Last Day Under the Sun” by Volbeat. Volbeat is that really good Danish rock band that I never knew about. Well, not until I heard them in one of the Top 50 Rock Songs countdown from years past. Volbeat has a very unique sound similar to bands from the late 90s and early 2000s. You'll know the song playing is a Volbeat song, because it sounds like a Volbeat song.

Anyway, this track is a pretty good one. Not too heavy on metal or rock. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it. It sounds more like mainstream rock, or maybe it's just plain old rock and roll. Beautiful ending to the music video too.

Next song for today is “Where Are You Now?” by Honor Society. This one is a pretty good pop-rock track. Clean and melodic, a typical pop-rock song really. Yet, I still love listening to it. Maybe it's because of the narrative in the song. This song is about recognizing the fact that you won't be who you are today, if not for the people who were a part of your life in the past. The song ends with these beautiful lyrics:

The first track today is perhaps my best discovery last year. It is the song “Shine” by Mondo Cozmo. I do not remember where I heard it from. It was probably from the Top 50 Rock Songs of 2019 countdown. Honestly, not the song I expected to hear from an artist who does folk rock/indie rock music. But either way, this is a great song. It is about trusting in Jesus and living life the best you can, without telling others how to live their lives. It reminds me of something I read in the Word on Fire Bible — that each one of us is responsible for our own salvation. Stop looking at what other people are doing and focus instead on what you should be doing.

This song has some really good lyrics too. It starts out with this:

Stick with me Jesus through the comin' storm I've come to you in search of something I have lost Shine down a light on me and show a path I promise you I will return if you take me back

Then on the bridge there's the lyrics below. It nearly brought tears to my eyes when I first heard them. This is such a good song.

The second song for today is my favorite Tenth Avenue North song, “By Your Side.” This song is great because it sounds like God is talking to me the whole time the song is playing. I mean just look at the lyrics below and you'll understand what I mean. I get that not everyone will feel the same way, but this song has such a powerful effect on me. It is a beautiful, beautiful song.

Last song for today is another beautiful Tenth Avenue North song, “Control (Somehow You Want Me).” This is a more recent one. I love the music video and its focus on family and God. I love the lyrics. I love the song.
