Music Log - 038 | Mayonnaise Alt-Rock Covers 🎵

<![CDATA[I stumbled upon the Mayonnaise YouTube channel a couple of days ago. Mayonnaise) is a rock band from the Philippines that makes some really good soaring rock music. Needless to say, I'm a fan. While most of their songs are written in Tagalog, they do some in English too. I was delighted to find out that they do covers of popular rock songs from the early 2000s. Here are two that are really good.

Most people know Yellowcard. Most people know their hit song "Only One". It is my favorite song from Yellowcard. This is a very nicely done cover by Mayonnaise.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/-cU4-MdfYhw" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
If you're following my music blog, you probably already know that I'm a fan of the song "MakeDamnSure" by Taking Back Sunday. I mean apart from the original, I also shared this and this. This cover by Mayonnaise is outstanding in that it mirrors the original very well, both in sound and raw vocals -- and in my opinion that's pretty hard to do. It is a very good cover.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/i-oAOIJPMEg" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Tags: #MusicLog #Mayonnaise #AlternativeRock

!--emailsub--

div id="post-signature"
div class="alert-info"
ba href="https://remark.as/p/journal.dinobansigan.com/music-log-038"Discuss.../a/b or leave me a comment below.
/div
/div]]>

Music Log - 037 | The Story of 'Last Resort' by Papa Roach 🎵

<![CDATA[A must-watch for any Papa Roach fan. It talks about the origin of their hit song "Last Resort".

Did you know that it was originally written on a piano? I never would have guessed.

I didn't use to be a Papa Roach fan back then. But they kept coming out with great tracks throughout the years. And some of their songs really resonated with me. So, I couldn't really help but become a fan. And now I know why.

The video also talks about the battles with alcohol and suicide that Jacoby, the lead singer went through. It gives you an inside look into the humanity behind the band. Now I understand why their songs are deep and heavy. Any song writer who goes through hell, always comes out with great tracks. And we need to treasure these song writers while they're still around. Because not all of them survive their battle against depression and suicide.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO7Xb-OvQXA&feature=youtu.be

For other really good Papa Roach tracks, check out these ones that I shared on my music blog.

Tags: #MusicLog #PapaRoach

!--emailsub--

div id="post-signature"
div class="alert-info"
ba href="https://remark.as/p/journal.dinobansigan.com/music-log-037"Discuss.../a/b or leave me a comment below.
/div
/div]]>

Music Log - 036 | Songs from A Day To Remember and Beartooth 🎵

<![CDATA[It's been over a month since my last music log. What with the digital declutter and all. Anyway, it's time for another one. I've got two hard hitting head-bang inducing rock songs in this music log. Both tracks deliver great messages to their listeners. Let's get started.

First up is the song "Justified" by one of my favorite bands, A Day To Remember. This song is a great reminder for all of us to stop being judgemental of other people. Especially those with a different set of beliefs than ours. If your set of beliefs or religion has you looking down at other people who believe differently, then there's something wrong there.

Just as an example, Jesus said, "Love your neighbors as yourself." Note that He didn't say to love them only if they believe what you believe. He said to love them as you love yourself.

Anyway, I don't want to sound like I'm preaching in this music log. Here are some of the song's lyrics. This is a great rock song from start to finish.

 Burn me alive
If you feel that's justified
I need more than faith
To see you on the other side, the other side

 Can you hear me?
The lowly one
Do ya fear me?
You righteous ones

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/UfVbdhg7t38" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Song links:
div class="songlink"iframe width="100%" height="52" src="https://embed.song.link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsong.link%2Fi%2F1485064604&theme=light" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-presentation allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox"/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/

Second song for today is "In Between" by Beartooth. This is a good, hard rock, anthemic and uplifting track. It delivers a great message to listeners.

Life's so dark when every day is a struggle
why go out and see the world on fire
Don't let your mindset become what controls you
Speak right now and make the choice to grow

Don't run away, run away, run away
Don't run away, run away, run away (Run!)
Up on the mountain I see down below
It's easy to lose yourself I know
Can't hear what you're shouting, I'm deaf to your show
It's easy to lose your self control
Everybody gets high, everybody gets low
Life can be such overdose
Up on the mountain I see down below
It's easy to lose yourself I know in the in between
Oh!
In the in between

My favorite part of this song is the bridge. They captured this moment really well in the music video. You can see that the vocalist has given up and starts drowning. But help is on the way and what a relief that is to see.

I won't let pain get in my way
I can't have silence claiming me
We have strength in numbers, strength in numbers
To get us through the day

Everyone battles their own demons in life. Whether that be addiction, anxiety, depression, sickness, whatever it may be, keep on fighting! Don't let suicide be your only way out. Find other people in the same predicament as you. Find other people who can pull you out of the darkness that you're in. And if all that fails, look up. Help is there, when you need it. Just don't give up.

No compromises to be made, this is a war we're gonna win
We have strength in numbers, strength in numbers
To get us through the day

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/j2p_w409y-o" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Song links:
div class="songlink"iframe width="100%" height="52" src="https://embed.song.link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsong.link%2Fi%2F872815926&theme=light" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-presentation allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox"/iframe/div

And that's it for today.

Burn me alive
If you feel that's justified
I need more than faith
To see you on the other side, the other side

Can you hear me?
The lowly one
Do ya fear me?
You righteous ones

Second song for today is “In Between” by Beartooth.

<![CDATA[I know I just recently wrote a music log post. And I don't usually do them in quick succession. Not to mention, I don't usually write posts on Sundays. But ever since I heard a wonderful rendition of Dan Schutte's "You Are Near" in the televised Mass I was watching, I have been wanting to do a Sunday Music Log post. What was holding me back, was finding a similar rendition of the song that I could share online. I couldn't find one, so I sort of gave up on the idea.

Then in today's Mass, Dave and Lauren Moore, the couple who sings in the televised Sunday Masses that I watch, sang a beautiful rendition of "I Am The Bread Of Life". Once again I was filled with this urge to write a Sunday Music Log post. I went on to the Catholic Diocese of Dallas website to find a way to contact the diocese. I wanted to ask them if they have recorded videos of the songs that Dave and Lauren Moore sang in Mass. It turns out, the diocese has a YouTube channel where they uploaded recordings of the televised Masses I've been watching. Within those videos are the exact rendition of the songs that I watched, and now want to share.

All songs in this music log were performed by Dave and Lauren Moore.

So, first up is this beautiful rendition of Dan Schutte's "You Are Near". The song starts at around the 48:22 mark.

This song brings back good memories. Memories of me as a kid singing it in Mass at school. Memories of me playing the guitar, while our group of altar servers sang this song in Mass. It's such a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Where can I run from your love?
If I climb to the heavens you are there
If I fly to the sunrise
Or sail beyond the sea
Still I’d find you there

O Lord, I know you are near
Standing always at my side
You guard me from the foe
And you lead me in ways everlasting

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/5mJMHtQZ2do?start=2902" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/
Second song for today is this beautiful rendition of Matt Maher's "Lord I Need You". The song starts at around the 48:32 mark.

Beautiful song from a contemporary Christian artist.

 Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You're the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/hUby9HKaz7Q?start=2912" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

hr class="sb"/
And the third and last song for today, is this beautiful rendition of "I Am The Bread Of Life". The song starts at around the 49:34 mark.

I've never heard this song sang as a duet. Dave and Lauren sang this beautifully.

I am the Bread of life,
And who comes to Me shall not hunger,
And who believes in Me shall not thirst.
No one can come to Me
Unless the Father lets.

And I will raise you up,
And I will raise you up,
And I will raise you up on the last day.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/ay9MRoktqLk?start=2974" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

And that's it for my first ever Sunday Music Log.
Music Log - 034 | Rock Covers from Our Last Night and SYCAMOUR 🎵

<![CDATA[It's a rather gloomy Friday. But I welcome the cooler temperatures, if only to get away from the Texas summer heat. Time for another music log then. Today's music log features rock covers of some popular hits.

Note that I'm trying something new in this music log. In addition to the embedded YouTube videos, I also added song links. This gives readers more options to listen or even purchase a song. They are not affiliate links. I do not get paid whatsoever if you decide to click on one of those links. I just thought of adding them to support the artists.

First up is "Mirrors" by Our Last Night. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the band Our Last Night makes some of the best rock covers I've heard. This is no exception. This a great rock cover of Justin Timberlake's hit song "Mirrors".

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/VwcpfYLQehM" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Song links:
div class="songlink"iframe width="100%" height="52" src="https://embed.song.link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsong.link%2Fi%2F712180229&theme=light" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-presentation allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox"/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/

Second and last song for today is this really good rock cover of Adele's "Set Fire To The Rain", by the band SYCAMOUR. This cover sounds so polished and clean. There's some minor screaming towards the end, but not enough to detract from the joy of listening to this cover.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/-fAwnJJKmRE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Song links:
div class="songlink" style="height=52;"iframe width="100%" height="52" src="https://embed.song.link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsong.link%2Fi%2F840283473&theme=light" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-presentation allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox"/iframe/div

And that's it for today's music log.
Music Log - 033 | Songs from A Day To Remember and In Stereo 🎵

<![CDATA[First song for today is "I'm Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of?" Yes the title is a handful. It is based off a line from the movie Night At The Museum -- and that just made me miss Robin Williams. Anyway, this song was my intro to the band A Day To Remember. I first heard it on Pandora and really liked it. Soon enough I had bought their album off iTunes. This is a great rock song from start to finish. Easily my favorite of all ADTR tracks. The bonus here is that their music video is funny too.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/xaKdRwCveEc" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/

Second song for today is "Waking Up" by the band In Stereo. Really good punk-rock, pop-punk track. It's surprising that it doesn't seem to be as popular as I think it should be. Couldn't find any official music video on Youtube for this one. The video on this post comes from a fan who uploaded a copy of the song, because they couldn't find an official one either. Anyway, like I said, a really good track worth listening to.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/MJDaJMYzi3c" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Happy Friday and I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Tags: #MusicLog #ADayToRemember #InStereo #PostHardcore #PopPunk #PunkRock

!--emailsub--

div id="post-signature"
div class="alert-info"
ba href="https://remark.as/p/journal.dinobansigan.com/music-log-033"Discuss.../a/b or leave me a comment below.
/div
/div]]>

Music Log - 032 | Music from The Piano Guys

<![CDATA[Looks like it's been over a month since I wrote a music log entry. And since it's Friday, here's a new one. Today's music log will once again feature piano/cello covers by The Piano Guys. I love listening to their covers. They're always great re-arrangements of popular hits. They make them sound like their own. And they make them sound beautiful. I credit them for my recent appreciation of classical musical instruments, like the piano and cello. That or I'm just getting old. Probably a bit of both. 😄

Anyway, first one for today is a cover of "Just The Way You Are", originally by Bruno Mars. I love that they simply didn't follow along with the original melody and tune. Instead, they took inspiration from the original song and re-arranged it to where it sounds like at times, an original piece. Beautiful cover of the original.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/rIBRcQdzWQs" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/
Next one is a cover of the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit OST. This is an outstanding cover. More so if you consider that they only used a piano and cello for this cover. I'm a fan of the LoTR and a fan of the movies. This cover filled me with so much frisson while listening to it. They made it sound as epic as the original soundtrack. I could close my eyes while listening to this and feel like I'm in Middle-earth. Amazing job on this cover.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/FZNqs0YgWkM" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

hr class="sb"/
Last one for today is a cover of "Epiphany", originally by BTS. If you haven't heard of BTS, then you probably don't have any teenagers around. My sisters love them. BTS is a very popular South Korean boy-band. As usual, this is a very good piano/cello cover of the original.

I was so into this cover that I couldn't stop myself from trying to at least figure out the main chords.

Looks like it's been over a month since I wrote a music log entry. 😄

Anyway, first one for today is a cover of “Just The Way You Are”, originally by Bruno Mars. I love that they simply didn't follow along with the original melody and tune. Instead, they took inspiration from the original song and re-arranged it to where it sounds like at times, an original piece. Beautiful cover of the original.

Last one for today is a cover of “Epiphany”, originally by BTS.

Here they are:
F – Dm – B♭ – C

And that's it for today. Happy Friday and y'all have a good weekend!

Music Log - 031 | Songs from Volbeat and Honor Society

<![CDATA[One thing I learned this week, is that it is hard to climb up three flights of stairs with a face mask on. By the time I got to my cubicle, I had shortness of breath... Anyway, it's Friday. Last day of the week that I have to work at the office. Then I'll be working from home again for the next two weeks. So I'm gonna celebrate with another music log entry.

First song for today is "Last Day Under the Sun" by Volbeat. Volbeat is that really good Danish rock band that I never knew about. Well, not until I heard them in one of the Top 50 Rock Songs countdown from years past. Volbeat has a very unique sound similar to bands from the late 90s and early 2000s. You'll know the song playing is a Volbeat song, because it sounds like a Volbeat song.

Anyway, this track is a pretty good one. Not too heavy on metal or rock. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it. It sounds more like mainstream rock, or maybe it's just plain old rock and roll. Beautiful ending to the music video too.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/ptro0vwRMaA" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/
Next song for today is "Where Are You Now?" by Honor Society). This one is a pretty good pop-rock track. Clean and melodic, a typical pop-rock song really. Yet, I still love listening to it. Maybe it's because of the narrative in the song. This song is about recognizing the fact that you won't be who you are today, if not for the people who were a part of your life in the past. The song ends with these beautiful lyrics:

 To the ones who cared
And who were there from the start
To the love that left
and took a piece of my heart
To the few who'd swear
I'd never go anywhere
Where are you now?

 Where are you now?
Cause I'm thinking of you
You showed me how
How to live like I do
If it wasn't for you
I would never be who I am

 If it wasn't for you
I would never be who I am
If it wasn't for you
I'd be nothing
Where are you now?

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/8UqlZdqONvY" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Happy Friday y'all!

hr /
This post is Day 10 of my #100DaysToOffload challenge. To the love that left
and took a piece of my heart
To the few who'd swear

Where are you now?

Where are you now?
Cause I'm thinking of you
You showed me how
How to live like I do

I would never be who I am

Music Log – 030 | Songs from Mondo Cozmo and Tenth Avenue North

<![CDATA[It has been a stressful week for reasons I don't want to elaborate on. But there was good news yesterday and that's all that matters right now. What a coincidence it is, that yet again, these are the kind of songs I have lined up for today. Anyway, it's time for another music log Friday.

The first track today is perhaps my best discovery last year. It is the song "Shine" by Mondo Cozmo. I do not remember where I heard it from. It was probably from the Top 50 Rock Songs of 2019 countdown. Honestly, not the song I expected to hear from an artist who does folk rock/indie rock music. But either way, this is a great song. It is about trusting in Jesus and living life the best you can, without telling others how to live their lives. It reminds me of something I read in the Word on Fire Bible -- that each one of us is responsible for our own salvation. Stop looking at what other people are doing and focus instead on what you should be doing.

This song has some really good lyrics too. It starts out with this:

Stick with me Jesus through the comin' storm
I've come to you in search of something I have lost
Shine down a light on me and show a path
I promise you I will return if you take me back

Then on the bridge there's the lyrics below. It nearly brought tears to my eyes when I first heard them. This is such a good song.

Come with me Mary through these modern lines
Stick with me Jesus til' the end of time
Shine down a light on me and let me know
And take me in your arms and never let me go

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/1pOUbcbTvOU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/
The second song for today is my favorite Tenth Avenue North song, "By Your Side." This song is great because it sounds like God is talking to me the whole time the song is playing. I mean just look at the lyrics below and you'll understand what I mean. I get that not everyone will feel the same way, but this song has such a powerful effect on me. It is a beautiful, beautiful song.

Why are you striving these days
Why are you trying to earn grace
Why are you crying
Let me lift up your face
Just don't turn away

Why are you looking for love
Why are you still searching
As if I'm not enough
To where will you go child
Tell me where will you run
To where will you run

Cause I'll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don't fight these hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/9tYmdSrJKF8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

hr class="sb"/
Last song for today is another beautiful Tenth Avenue North song, "Control (Somehow You Want Me)." This is a more recent one. I love the music video and its focus on family and God. I love the lyrics. I love the song.

 Here I am
All my intentions
All my obsessions
I want to lay them all down
In Your hands
Only Your love is vital
Though I'm not entitled
Still You call me Your child

 God You don't need me
But somehow You want me
Oh how You love me
Somehow that frees me
To take my hands off of my life
And the way it should go
God You don't need me
But somehow You want me
Oh how You love me
Somehow that frees me
To open my hands up
And give You control
I give You control

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/LzV-zVufYTE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Hope everyone has a good Friday!

hr /
This post is Day 2 of my #100DaysToOffload challenge.

The second song for today is my favorite Tenth Avenue North song, “By Your Side.” This song is great because it sounds like God is talking to me the whole time the song is playing. I mean just look at the lyrics below and you'll understand what I mean. I get that not everyone will feel the same way, but this song has such a powerful effect on me.

Why are you striving these days
Why are you trying to earn grace
Why are you crying
Let me lift up your face
Just don't turn away

Why are you looking for love
Why are you still searching
As if I'm not enough
To where will you go child
Tell me where will you run
To where will you run

Cause I'll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don't fight these hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

Last song for today is another beautiful Tenth Avenue North song, “Control (Somehow You Want Me).” This is a more recent one. I love the music video and its focus on family and God. I love the lyrics. I love the song.

Here I am
All my intentions
All my obsessions
I want to lay them all down
In Your hands
Only Your love is vital
Though I'm not entitled
Still You call me Your child

God You don't need me
But somehow You want me
Oh how You love me
Somehow that frees me
To take my hands off of my life
And the way it should go
God You don't need me
But somehow You want me
Oh how You love me
Somehow that frees me
To open my hands up
And give You control
I give You control
