Music Log - 031 | Songs from Volbeat and Honor Society

<![CDATA[One thing I learned this week, is that it is hard to climb up three flights of stairs with a face mask on. By the time I got to my cubicle, I had shortness of breath... Anyway, it's Friday. Last day of the week that I have to work at the office. Then I'll be working from home again for the next two weeks. So I'm gonna celebrate with another music log entry.

First song for today is "Last Day Under the Sun" by Volbeat. Volbeat is that really good Danish rock band that I never knew about. Well, not until I heard them in one of the Top 50 Rock Songs countdown from years past. Volbeat has a very unique sound similar to bands from the late 90s and early 2000s. You'll know the song playing is a Volbeat song, because it sounds like a Volbeat song.

Anyway, this track is a pretty good one. Not too heavy on metal or rock. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it. It sounds more like mainstream rock, or maybe it's just plain old rock and roll. Beautiful ending to the music video too.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/ptro0vwRMaA" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/
Next song for today is "Where Are You Now?" by Honor Society). This one is a pretty good pop-rock track. Clean and melodic, a typical pop-rock song really. Yet, I still love listening to it. Maybe it's because of the narrative in the song. This song is about recognizing the fact that you won't be who you are today, if not for the people who were a part of your life in the past. The song ends with these beautiful lyrics:

 To the ones who cared
And who were there from the start
To the love that left
and took a piece of my heart
To the few who'd swear
I'd never go anywhere
Where are you now?

 Where are you now?
Cause I'm thinking of you
You showed me how
How to live like I do
If it wasn't for you
I would never be who I am

 If it wasn't for you
I would never be who I am
If it wasn't for you
I'd be nothing
Where are you now?

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/8UqlZdqONvY" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Happy Friday y'all!

hr /
This post is Day 10 of my #100DaysToOffload challenge.
Next song for today is “Where Are You Now?” by Honor Society. This one is a pretty good pop-rock track. Clean and melodic, a typical pop-rock song really. Yet, I still love listening to it. Maybe it's because of the narrative in the song. This song is about recognizing the fact that you won't be who you are today, if not for the people who were a part of your life in the past. The song ends with these beautiful lyrics:

To the ones who cared
And who were there from the start
To the love that left
and took a piece of my heart
To the few who'd swear
I'd never go anywhere
Where are you now?

Where are you now?
Cause I'm thinking of you
You showed me how
How to live like I do
If it wasn't for you
I would never be who I am

If it wasn't for you
I would never be who I am
If it wasn't for you
I'd be nothing
Where are you now?

Music Log - 022 | Songs from A Day to Remember, Puddle of Mudd and Papa Roach

<![CDATA[In my journal entry from yesterday, I made a note to myself to write a proper music log entry for the three rock songs I liked after listening to the Top 50 Rock Songs of 2019 countdown. So here they are.

First song is "Degenerates" by A Day to Remember. This is not your typical ADTR track. This one is a little too soft compared to the rest of their tracks, but it is a good one nonetheless.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/mq3iRf8QA28" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr /

Probably the biggest surprise for me in that Top 50 countdown was "UH OH" by Puddle of Mudd. This song sounds like a throwback to rock songs from the late 90s, early 2000s. It's a surprisingly good track. It includes a guitar instrumental and even a key change at the end to round out the package.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/40r29HjZa6g" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

hr /

Last song for today is "Come Around" by Papa Roach. The song is pretty good, but the music video is even better! Papa Roach decided to focus on a long time fan in their music video. The end result is a rather emotional, but in a good kind of way, music video.

Also, anyone else here envisioned the band Papa Roach to still be going strong this long into their musical careers? When I first heard of them way back in high school, I did not think they would outlive Creed, Limp Bizkit, Oasis and other popular rock and roll bands from that era. Papa Roach is still at it, making kick-ass music, which is something to be thankful for these days.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/UbZliRZBJME" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Tags: #MusicLog #RockMusic #ADayToRemember #PuddleOfMudd #PapaRoach

!--emailsub--

div id="post-signature"
div class="alert-info"
ba href="https://remark.as/p/journal.dinobansigan.com/music-log-022"Discuss.../a/b or leave me a comment below.
/div
/div]]>

Music Log - 020 | Songs from Rev Theory and Creed

<![CDATA[For today's music log, I have two songs with really great intros. I'm talking about the kind of intros that will get you pumped up and ready to rock. I'm deviating from my usual sharing of songs from Spotify, to instead sharing music videos from Youtube. This is so you can actually listen to the intros of these two great rock songs.

First up is the song "Hell Yeah" by Rev Theory. I've only heard of Rev Theory a few years ago, but this song is apparently from way back in 2008. I know musical taste is subjective, but I believe this song has one of the best intros as far as rock and roll songs goes.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/7LuSP4QaXiQ" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr /

Second song for today is "What If" by Creed. I believe one reason Creed made so much good music back in the day was because of Mark Tremonti on the guitars. The intro to this song starts nice and slow, but it comes alive as soon as Scott Stapp starts singing. With the right speakers or headphones, this is pure musical bliss.

This song takes me back to my high school days and to one memory in particular. I was probably in my junior or senior year. I was in a group that was supposed to make a presentation on historical figures from Philippine history, or was it for characters from the Noli Me Tangere) novel? Can't remember exactly. Either way, we ended up presenting them as runway models, a la fashion show, and we used the song "What If" as the background music. It was a total riot and our teacher was pissed, but I remember hearing some cheers from my classmates back then. Wow, those were good times.

By the way, it's not just the intro on this song that is good, the whole song is great. It would also make a great Avengers music video. If not for copyright issues, I would have already made one. I can see this song playing in the background while Captain America and Iron Man face off against Thanos and his minions. Would be an awesome music video. Anyway, here's the song, enjoy.

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/TecYs5J4jdw" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Tags: #MusicLog #Music #RevTheory #Creed #RockMusic

!--emailsub--

div id="post-signature"
div class="alert-info"
ba href="https://remark.as/p/journal.dinobansigan.com/music-log-020"Discuss.../a/b or leave me a comment below.
/div
/div]]>

Music Log - My Top Songs of 2019

<![CDATA[For my last music log for the year 2019, I'm sharing my top 3 songs as reported by Spotify.

The first song is "Throne" by Bring Me The Horizon. Apparently this rock band has been making music for awhile now, but it wasn't until their 2015 album "That's The Spirit" that I really started to take notice. This track is probably my favorite Bring Me The Horizon song, so I'm not surprised it is at the top of the list. However, there is another reason why this ended up being my top song for 2019.

Early this year, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown came out and I was hooked on that game for months. During that time, I seriously thought about making an Ace Combat 7 music video using this song. I thought that the lyrics in this song, fits really well with some of the narrative in the game. So I kept listening to this song, constructing the scenes in my mind. Eventually I decided not to go through with it due to copyright issues, but I guess I listened to the song too much that it is now my top song for 2019.

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/5tYqrn7cItYhDGDLHt8XuH" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

!--more--
hr /

This next track is "3 AM" by the rock band Chiodos. I have never heard of Chiodos before, until one day I heard this song playing on my brothers PC. This is a really good song with some lessons to teach about regret and taking things for granted. In other words, don't make the same mistake that the guy in this song made. If you think you've found the one for you, don't let them slip away.

I wish I would've loved you instead of being selfish,
And being so obsessed in my dreams.
Oh, look at me! I'm surrounded by the lonely.
I thought that I could win you back because I've always had it.
... but love is a tricky thing.
It's what they never taught, that when you lose what you love,
You lose a piece of your heart.

All I wanted was the world.
All you wanted was me.

It's only in the end when you were gone,
I didn't realize what I had lost.
These one night stands are meaningless...
But I'm lying in bed, with a girl I just met,
At 3am.

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/1S8cT0r8G3q7xQBDX1DBwl" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

hr /

My last song for today is "Lighthouse" by Word Alive. I honestly didn't expect this song to be my 3rd top song for 2019, however this is still a pretty good anthemic rock song that is just a pleasure to listen to.

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/0cICRgMJaTogLQPGbwifSC" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

hr/
So that's it for music logs for 2019.

For my last music log for the year 2019, I'm sharing my top 3 songs as reported by Spotify.

The first song is “Throne” by Bring Me The Horizon. Apparently this rock band has been making music for awhile now, but it wasn't until their 2015 album “That's The Spirit” that I really started to take notice.

This next track is “3 AM” by the rock band Chiodos.

But I'm lying in bed, with a girl I just met,
At 3am.

My last song for today is “Lighthouse” by Word Alive. I honestly didn't expect this song to be my 3rd top song for 2019, however this is still a pretty good anthemic rock song that is just a pleasure to listen to.

So that's it for music logs for 2019. I hope next year brings more awesome music to listen to. Happy New Year everyone!

Music Log – 028 | Falling in Reverse Part 2

<![CDATA[Update 06/05/2020 -- Redid this music log with YouTube videos and an updated post slug. This used to be Music Log – 014 | Falling in Reverse Part 2. With the updated post slug, you should be able to use the footer links to navigate from this entry, all the way down to the first one (Music Log - 001), and vice versa. Note that the footer links will only show up if you have Javascript enabled.

This is part 2 of the Falling In Reverse music log edition. Let's start off with the song "Fuck You and All Your Friends". Don't let the title of the song stop you from trying to listen to it. It is a really great track with an awesome build up to the chorus. The reason the title is so negative, is because if I'm not mistaken, the song is based off the fractured relationship between the band's vocalist and his friends from his previous band (before he formed Falling In Reverse).

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/vbC9orqPCtc" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

!--more--
hr class="sb"/
Next song is "Loser", which is an awesome track with some really good lyrics. This is one of the tracks where I felt like Falling In Reverse has now started to mature in their song writing. And I don't know why, but I just connect with this song. I love it!

You're always getting me high, then you're pulling me low.
Then you beg me to stay, but you want me to go.
You're always telling me "yes", but your answer is "no".
If you want me to guess, I'm just a stranger you know.
If you call this winning why do I feel like a loser?

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/A2vHIpxsfEM" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

hr class="sb"/
Last song for today is "Keep Holding On". As you can read from the title, this song has a beautiful message about holding on. In fact the singer directly addresses the kids listening to this song and tells them to keep holding on. I love that.

Also, this song is pretty much the singer's life story summarized into one awesome track. Usually musicians who create really beautiful, meaningful music, are those who went through so much in their lives. This is showcased in this song. I mean just look at the lyrics below, especially the part where he says "They sing my songs and feel my pain, cause pain is what creates my fame." That's some deep shit right there. This is one of their best songs in my opinion.

I thought I had myself all figured out
But I've spent my whole life holding myself down
And it seems to be that sort of thing I keep doing constantly
Addicted to the pain I cause myself

My head is floating somewhere in the clouds
While I'm paid to entertain a lively crowd
They sing my songs and feel my pain cause pain is what creates my fame
A vicious cycle someday I'll get out

I can't believe I'm standing here at all, I can't believe I made it this far
On my way with a smile on my face to the top and I'm not falling off
And all I need is a microphone, I'll sing about the things that have been hurting me
It's safe to say all the kids I relate to their lives so just keep holding on

div class="video-container"iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/ddEvHjcan1o" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe/div

Tags: #MusicLog #Music #FallingInReverse #RockMusic #PunkRock

!--emailsub--

div id="post-signature"
div class="alert-info"
ba href="https://remark.as/p/journal.dinobansigan.com/music-log-028"Discuss.../a/b or leave me a comment below.
/div
/div]]>

<![CDATA[It's a beautiful Friday in North Texas. It is sunny outside but the temp is 48F right now. Felt good when I went out for a drive on my lunch break. Anyway since it is Friday, time for another music log.

This will be Part 1 of the Falling In Reverse music log edition. Wow Falling in Reverse. I don't even know how to describe their music, other than that it might be the best combination of metal, emo, punk, rock, electronica and rap that I've heard so far. Their lead singer Ronnie Radke has had a rough life having been involved with drugs and going to prison. However he uses his personal experiences and uses it as fuel to write some really, really good emotionally charged tracks.

Note: Most of their songs have explicit lyrics. You have been warned.

Let's start with one of their more recent songs, "Losing My Life." One of the best combination of rap and rock that I've ever heard in a song. I love how it transitions from rap to rock just before the chorus. It also has this sci-fi movie vibe to it.

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/6SeFPYWv9lIlSWanyEDYf5" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

!--more--
Next up is the song "It's Over When It's Over." This is probably my favorite Falling In Reverse song. So much good lyrics in this one track. The song covers a bunch of different experiences that the singer went through: his time in prison, his desperate call to God and his friends/peers hounding him after he got out of jail. Really good song!

I swore to God that I'm never coming back.
Kept my faith when I was clacked.
Staring at the wall through a crack in the floor.
And these metal doors, they've got me trapped.
I gotta remind myself that my mind is strong so I won't lose my head.
I've got my demons that I fight with, every little thought in every breath.

I wear my heart up on my sleeve so my soul's exposed.
And I carry this disease, the weight of the holy ghost.
God, can you hear me? God is missing.

Take it back, take it back, my friend,
All the things that you said about the end.
This is it, this is me telling you it ain't over til it's over.
Give it up, give it up, my friend.
The score is settled even if you won't admit.
Set it down, final hour without a doubt, it's over when it's over.

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/3Wn52FjoUJClQOXwKePPp3" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

Last song for today, is the first Falling in Reverse song that I've ever heard, "Bad Girls Club." This one is not as deep as the previous two tracks I've shared.
Music Log - 011

<![CDATA[It is Friday, so time for another music log. I deem this music log the Crown The Empire edition.

Let's start slow with "Lead Me Out of the Dark", a beautiful song featuring just the vocalist and a piano accompaniment. He's not the strongest singer, but there's something raw and real about the way he sings in this track.

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/6h2YXTAX6QN83w0gOTjDZa" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

!--more--
Next song is "Millenia" and is my favorite song from this band.

It is Friday, so time for another music log. I deem this music log the Crown The Empire edition.

Let's start slow with “Lead Me Out of the Dark”, a beautiful song featuring just the vocalist and a piano accompaniment. He's not the strongest singer, but there's something raw and real about the way he sings in this track.

Next song is “Millenia” and is my favorite song from this band. Love the lyrics on this track!

So I don't wanna know about the things that you regret,
Now that we're dead and over and done
Get away from me and leave my heart under the rug.

I've been gone from this world
For what seems like millennia
Looking for nothing short of a miracle
I only ever wanted to come home,
Please won't you let me go?
When I have no where left I can run away,
Will you lie to me, tell me I'll be okay.
Close my eyes and lay me in my tomb.
Then pull the trigger and send me home.

Music Log - 010

<![CDATA[Highlight of the week is the clutch slipping on my Speed3. Bummer because I just got it back last week after having the front and rear brakes serviced. If it ends up needing a new clutch, well that will be expensive. Alas that is a fact of life when owning a car with 100,000 miles on it. As a precaution, I've switched to a Stage1 tune to lower max boost on the turbo and have taken to driving like a grandma; never going over 3000 RPM. Unfortunate, because boost season is upon us too. Anyway it's Friday, so time for another music log.

First song for today is "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?" by The Offspring. As soon as you hear it, you'll know it's a song from The Offspring. Must be the singer's voice or the way they do vocal harmonies. They just have this unique sound on their tracks that is reminiscent of other bands from the 90s or early 2000s. Just like how you know a song is from Red Hot Chili Peppers or from Incubus. The Offspring almost sounds like they've grown up in this song though.

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/616cVydBdvTudiKpoWs0WY" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

!--more--
Second song is "Fall Apart" from Every Avenue. Every Avenue is probably best known for their song "Tell Me I'm A Wreck", which is a hilarious and awesome song at the same time. This song though I only heard this year and it's a good one too. We need more bitter songs like this hah!

I want you to fall apart like I did
You to hurt for all of this
All the pain you put me through
I wanna hear you say
I don't deserve you
Fall apart like I did
You to hurt for all of this
All the pain you put me through
I wanna hear you say
I don't deserve you
Fall apart

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/1pK8itCVhSeIR6cjYrnAZ1" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

Last song for today is from a relatively unknown band. The song is "This One's For You" by Thousand Thoughts. I found the song through the Discover Today playlist on Spotify. This is a powerful song, made so by the way their vocalist sings. He has this deep voice that I normally wouldn't expect to come from a band's front-man, but he puts it to good use in this song. The way the song almost stops in the bridge and then the vocalist almost wills the song back to life, that is pretty awesome. That part of the song always gives me frisson. Depending on what you're going through in your life, this can be a love song or even a spiritual song. This is just a great song and I love the lyrics too!

So put your trust in my arms
And send your fears to my heart
Lay to rest the pain
With my hand
Looking into your eyes
I see past where you hide
No matter how hard you
Try to deny

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/2CtobklU9mZe2x90j34r2X" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

Tags: #MusicLog #Music #PunkRock #RockMusic #TheOffspring #EveryAvenue #ThousandThoughts

div id="post-signature"
div class="alert-info"
ba href="https://remark.as/p/journal.dinobansigan.com/music-log-010"Discuss.../a/b or leave me a comment below.
/div
/div]]>

Music Log – 008

<![CDATA[Another Friday is here, so time for another music log. I skipped last week because I was yet again trapped in a conference room with other developers, working on getting a feature ready for release. Anyway I deem this music log the I Prevail edition. I Prevail is hard rock band that I discovered probably 2-3 years ago, when I heard their cover of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space". Their bio on Spotify suggests that they are one of the reasons rock music is still very much alive nowadays.

First up is the song "Scars". This is easily my favorite I Prevail song. This song rocks, I don't know how else to describe it. It's a great rock song from start to finish. The lyrics are great as well and the message they convey is a much appreciated one, especially for those battling anxiety or depression.

Excuses, excuses are all that I hear
All I can see when I look in the mirror
I can't escape all these thoughts in my mind
They're waiting to haunt me, night after night

I feel it in my bones, and everything I know
It's underneath my skin, and it won't let go
They know me all too well, but only time will tell
If this is who I am, do I know myself?

Don't forget your life's your own
Don't ever let it go

In the heat of the moment when fear has you frozen
You're crashing and burning when life's at its coldest
Don't fall too far from who you are
They can cut us but we'll wear our scars

iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/6WaYiQUPel70HUaCZj5eND" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

!--more--
Second song is "My Heart I Surrender".
Music Log - 004

<![CDATA[It's Friday so let's do another music log before the weekdays slip by. Half of this day has been spent fixing SQL scripts and doing code reviews. It is a blessing to be able to listen to good music in between. I would deem this music log a "pop-punk/emo-pop" edition, but the last song is a little too heavy to be considered pop-punk :)

To start it up, we have "Into Your Arms" by The Maine. Love this song, takes me back to my college years.
iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/3skPCcteHhoPV6GkzxVl2p" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

!--more--
Next up is "All Over You" by The Spill Canvas. This a great track. Love how it transitions from the intro, to the verses, to the chorus, each piece sounding different, but combine them all together and you end up with a great song.
iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/4b9jRNwMUvABxTD1amyfA6" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"/iframe

Last song is "My Life For Hire" by A Day To Remember.
